Lachlan takes the next step towards a career as a mechanic

Southern Cross School of Distance Education is proud to celebrate Lachlan Smith, who has taken an exciting step towards his goal of becoming a mechanic.

Lachlan began working as a casual Automotive Trade Assistant at Quayside Motors in Ballina. Working five days a week, he is gaining valuable experience in the automotive industry, with the opportunity to progress to a mechanical apprenticeship in 2027, subject to a successful initial employment period.

Lachlan’s mum shared her appreciation for the school staff who supported him along the way:

“We are so grateful to all the staff at Southern Cross Distance Education who have been amazing in offering their support to Lachlan. I fully believe that the positive support and interactions Lachlan had with his teachers played a large part in Lachlan gaining the confidence to push through and pursue his goal of becoming a Mechanic. We are extremely grateful for this.”

This milestone celebrates Lachlan’s determination to pursue his goals and the encouragement of the staff who helped him build confidence in his future. It is a wonderful example of the difference positive relationships between students, families and school staff can make.

Congratulations, Lachlan, and thank you to the staff who have supported your journey. Our school community wishes you every success at Quayside Motors as you work towards an apprenticeship and a career as a mechanic.
